Edinburgh welcomes visitors from Marella CruiseLinesJourney planning and travel information

Visitors from across the UK will be arriving in Edinburgh from the Marella CruiseLines cruise ships throughout this month, so we’ve put together a handy guide on how to explore the sights of the capital and beyond.

Which service?

After being brought into Newhaven Harbour, you’ll want to jump on a Service 11 from the nearby Lindsay Road which will take you into the city centre. From there, the world’s your oyster!

Alternatively, you may wish to take a more scenic route into town and kick-start your sightseeing in style… Jump on the Majestic Tour (operated by our sister company Edinburgh Bus Tours) at Newhaven Harbour! The tour costs just £16 for an adult ticket (valid on all 3 of our city tours for 24 hours) plus ‘kids go free’! More on Edinburgh Bus Tours can be found further down.

How to pay?

Contactless is the best way to pay for travel on our buses, and individual adult passengers can benefit from discounted daily capping of £4.40 when using TapTapCap! Contactless can also be used to pay for every other type of ticket, so you don’t need to worry about having the correct change (if you need to purchase a child or family ticket, please ask the driver first – you’ll then be advised when to tap your card/contactless device).

If you wish to pay with cash, we still accept it on our services but please note that the exact fare is required as we cannot provide change.

How to plan journeys?

The best way to navigate the city via our services is through our mobile app – www.tfeapp.com. You can enter start locations and destinations (as well as desired time/day of travel) and it’ll provide you with the services available for that journey. Track buses, check on service updates and more!

Still need help? Our social media team are available to help with all queries between 0900 and 1700 on Monday to Friday, so drop them a line on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram if you have any questions.

How to travel safely?

In Scotland, face coverings remain mandatory on public transport unless the individual has a legitimate exemption. We ask that customers make themselves aware of all our safe travel guidance before setting off on a journey.

Things to do!

Our sister company, Edinburgh Bus Tours, is a brilliant way to explore the amazing sights of Edinburgh… without the blisters or aching feet! Edinburgh Bus Tours have some superb offers, including adult tickets starting from just £8 plus kids go free. With four tours available – the Edinburgh Tour, CitySightseeing Edinburgh, 3 Bridges, and Majestic Tour – you might want to upgrade to the Grand 24 ticket which allows for 24 hours’ unlimited travel on three city tours.

As mentioned, the Majestic Tour calls at Newhaven Harbour, so it’s a brilliant way to begin or finish your day after exploring the capital. This multi-language tour will take you to attractions like the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, the Royal Yacht Britannia and the vibrant bustling community of Leith.
