Travelling to Edinburgh Airport: bus and tram information

With the ongoing closure of Princes Street, we’ve compiled some journey planning information for customers wishing to travel to Edinburgh Airport.

Edinburgh Trams

Edinburgh Trams are operating part-route only between West End and Edinburgh Airport. Due to increased pressure on our Airlink 100 service, customers with Airlink return tickets can use them on Edinburgh Trams to complete their journey between West End/Haymarket and Edinburgh Airport.

Service 17

Service 17 offers connections from the north of the city, linking Ocean Terminal to the airport with a journey time of approximately 50 minutes. Ticket acceptance is in place for Edinburgh Trams customers on Service 17 only for the entire route while Princes Street remains closed.

The service provides connections with Newhaven, Granton, Muirhouse, Clermiston, East Craigs, Maybury Road (approx. 10-minute walk to Edinburgh Gateway Station), Ingliston Park and Ride, and Edinburgh Airport.

Service 18

Service 18 operates from the south-east of the city, with a total journey time of approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Tram ticket acceptance is not in place on Service 18.

The service provides connections with Niddrie, Greendykes, the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Gilmerton, Kaimes, Fairmilehead, Colinton, Clovenstone, Edinburgh Napier University (Sighthill), South Gyle (approx. 5-minute walk to Edinburgh Park Station), the Gyle Shopping Centre, Ingliston Park and Ride, and Edinburgh Airport.

Both services are part of Lothian’s regular city network, with single adult fares of just £2.40. They’re also included in contactless fare capping, which automatically applies the cheapest daily or weekly cap based on the journeys you make.

As we continue to manage demand on our network with the disruption on Princes Street, please consider travelling on Services 17 or 18 if possible to travel to/from the airport.
