Introducing new features in Bus & Tram App'Take Me Home', dark mode, stop timetables and more!

From today (Tuesday 25 February) new features are being added to the Bus & Tram App to enhance our customers’ experience travelling across our network.

In response to customer feedback, these new features will make planning journeys even easier.

iOS customers can visit the App Store to update the app now. Updates for Android customers will be rolled out over the next week. Please see below for a summary of these latest updates.

In response to user feedback, we have introduced a way to plan journeys to key locations – you can now save a ‘Home’ location and a ‘Work’ location to your account from the map and instantly plan a journey to those places from your current location.

Shortcuts to these key journeys can be found in the ‘Saved’ menu and in the journey planner.

To improve the user experience, Dark Mode has been introduced within the app. This mode provides a softer visual experience, reducing eye strain in low-light environments, and helps reduce battery usage.

The app will automatically match your device settings, so if you’re using Dark Mode for everything else, the Bus & Tram App will now match this.

Planning ahead but already know your route? You can now check the timetable at your bus/tram stop to check when your bus/tram will be due at the stop later that day, or on a future date within the following 2 weeks.

This handy tool allows you to check timings if you’re not travelling at your usual time, or to look ahead at the timings on each stop when we make timetable changes.

We know that some customers prefer to speak with our colleagues in-person, so we have now added our TravelHub locations on the map so you can see where they are and use the journey planner to get directions to them.

These can be found on the map or by searching for ‘TravelHub’ via the Search function, and they can be turned on/off within the Filters menu.

Our TravelHubs provide journey information, Ridacard purchases and top-ups, Lothian merchandise, and tickets for Edinburgh Bus Tours and Lothian Motorcoaches.

Save stops as a phone widget

If you have saved stops which you use regularly, you can use widgets to see real-time information more quickly!

On iOS devices, you can save up to 2 stops to the lock screen to access real-time information directly without having to open the app first and find the stop.

On Android devices, you can add a home screen widget where you can cycle through the real-time information for all your saved stops without launching the app. Plus, if you’re an m-ticket user, you can also add a shortcut to view an active ticket so you can access this quicker too.

To find out how to set a widget on your device, visit Lothian’s Help Centre where you can check out articles on this and other features/functions of the Bus & Tram App.
