Meet our longest serving employee – Kenny!

As part of our series of interviews with some of our longest serving employees for our centenary year celebrations, meet Kenny Alan, one of our Airlink drivers.  Kenny will have been with the Lothian for an amazing 59 years this year.

We’ve asked him a few questions.

When did you start working with the company?
25 July 1960.

What role were you in / what do you do now?
When I was 15 I started working with the company in the Parcel Department at Shrubhill.  I delivered parcels to locations all around Edinburgh on our buses. I then moved on to driving the cash van between our garages and then when I was 18 I became a bus conductor.  I started driving buses in June 1966 and I now work part time driving Airlink buses.

What is the biggest change you have seen in your time with the company?
The vehicles.  Modern buses are much easier to drive.  They have power steering, automatic gear boxes and are much warmer.

Tell us your favourite Lothian memory?
I was a conductor on a number one bus when a girl got on and we started to chat.  I asked her out and she became my wife.

What are you looking forward to about this years celebrations?
Getting the chance to remember all the things that have happened over my time with the company .  I have many happy memories here.
