Celebrating our role in the iconic Queensferry Crossing OpeningWe're delighted to have played our part

The opening of the Queensferry Crossing bridge across the Forth was a once-in-a-lifetime event that captured the hearts and minds of people across Scotland, the UK and even further afield.

This ambitious construction project funded by the Scottish Government and undertaken by Transport Scotland, took six years to complete at a cost of £1.35 billion.

We were extremely proud to play our part in making the opening celebrations for this landmark occasion go smoothly, by providing the transportation for 1000’s of people travelling to and from the opening weekend bridge walk.

A team of over 160 of our staff helped out operating a fleet of over 80 new low emission Lothian buses mading sure the lucky ballot winners made their way from specially commissioned park and ride sites to the bridge and back again.

The Lothian team was made up of a wide range of staff from across the whole business, including drivers, supervisors, schedulers, engineers and a dedicated event management team, who all worked tirelessly across the whole weekend to ensure the operation ran smoothly.

The work continued into the Monday following the weekend, during the official opening ceremony with Her Majesty the Queen and the First Minister of Scotland, with a further fleet of buses and squad of staff transporting VIPs and other guests.

Nigel Serafini Lothian’s Commercial Director said:

We were honoured to be able to play our part in this historic event which is so important for Scotland. It was a fantastic experience for our team to be a part of and they all worked incredibly hard to deliver a first class service across a weekend that will be remembered by thousands of people for years to come.
