Lothian has welcomed a new class of apprentice engineers who will undertake on-the-job training at the company, honing their skills over the next three to four years.
The award-winning operator’s apprenticeship programme is highly regarded across the transport industry and beyond, recognised as an exceptional opportunity for individuals of all ages to develop both practical and personal skills while accessing a pathway to establish a career in engineering.
Six new young trainees and five mature apprentices have joined the engineering teams across Lothian. Our new class of apprentices will gain hands-on experience alongside classroom-based learning provided by GTG at their purpose-built centre in Newbridge.
Dylan Dastey, Engineering Director for Lothian, said: “We’re delighted to welcome eleven new apprentices to our business this year and to continue investing in the next generation of engineering talent.
“Our apprenticeship programme plays a vital role in our long-term commitment to developing home-grown skills and creating exciting career opportunities within the engineering sector. It gives young people the opportunity to learn, grow and build a rewarding career, while gaining valuable experience and developing their skills within our business.
“Throughout their training, our apprentices will combine classroom-based learning with hands-on experience across our garages, developing the practical skills, technical knowledge and confidence they need to succeed. We’re proud to support them at the start of their careers and look forward to watching them develop into highly skilled engineers and become an important part of the next generation of talent within our business.”
Lothian’s apprentices will be awarded an SCQF Level 7 in Heavy Goods and Public Service Vehicle Maintenance and Repair upon successful completion of their training.
The engineering apprenticeship scheme at Lothian is widely regarded as one of the best in the bus industry. Currently, Lothian has 28 apprentices learning their trade at the business, with 17 young apprentices and 11 mature apprentices across our engineering teams.
The programme has successfully trained over 130 engineers to date, many of whom have progressed their careers within the business.
