Lothian recently welcomed the next cohort of apprentice engineers to the business where they spend the next three to four years honing their skills through on-the-job training.

The Engineering Apprentice training programme at Lothian offers hands-on learning opportunities at one of Lothian’s city garages, gaining knowledge from peers with years of experience ‘on the tools’, in addition to further skills development with partner GTG in their purpose-built centre at Newbridge.

On completion of their training, the apprentices will achieve either an SVQ in Bus and Coach Mechanical/Electrical or an SCQF Level 6 in Bus and Coach Body Cladding, having learned all aspects of bus and coach repair and maintenance.

Dylan Dastey, Chief Engineer at Lothian, said: “It’s a privilege to be able to bring on the next generation of engineers. At Lothian, we place great importance on supporting and developing our people to reach their potential, and we’re delighted that so many of our apprentices go on to have long, rewarding careers within the company.

“Our apprenticeship programme, led by Lothian’s Training and Apprentice Manager alongside the wider engineering team, gives apprentices the chance to draw on the extensive knowledge and experience of their colleagues on the workshop floor, earning while they gain valuable qualifications that will stand them in good stead for the future.”
