Lothian colleagues raise £9,000 for local charities

Over the last year, Lothian colleagues have raised £9,000 for local charities in our community.

Colleagues can choose to deduct a small amount from their pay to be donated to the Lothian Buses Employees’ Charities Fund which helps supports its chosen beneficiaries to provide essential services for those in our local communities.

This year, the following 20 charities have received a share of the fund:

Action for Children (Gilmerton) Life Care (formerly Edinburgh and Leith Age Concern)
Autism Initiatives UK (Number 6 One Stop Shop) Marie Curie Hospice
Care for Carers Music in Hospitals
Children 1st Myeloma
Claymore Club NARA – The Breathing Charity
Compass Therapy Support (formerly MS Therapy Centre) Scottish Autism
Cruise Bereavement Care Sight Scotland
Drum Riding Centre for the Disabled Trust St Columba’s Hospice
Edinburgh Hospital Broadcasting Service Tranent Day Centre
Enable (Edinburgh Branch) Whale Arts

Some of the charities have since been in touch to explain just how invaluable each donation is to their service users. Read from St Columba’s Hospice Care and Scottish Autism below.

“On behalf of everyone at the hospice, I’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks for your generous donation. Your support will help grow our Compassionate Gardeners programme, which is currently training up a fantastic group of volunteers. Very soon, they’ll be out in the community, bringing comfort and connection to people living with life-limiting illnesses – so your grant couldn’t have come at a better time!”

“Thank you – we are hugely grateful to have your continued support. Your donation will allow us to invest in our day service in Musselburgh. It is highly likely we will spend this donation on sensory equipment and activities for our service users. This will go such a long way within the service, boosting the mental health and wellbeing of the people we support as well as our amazing staff.”
