To help customers keep up-to-date while out and about, Lothian’s Information Infrastructure team have introduced QR codes at bus stop timetable panels that directs customers straight to the relevant pages for the most up-to-date service information.
Edinburgh is an expanding city. In the ten years leading up to 2021, Edinburgh’s population grew by 10.2% from an estimated 477,940 to an estimated 526,470 people[i]. A lot of work goes into growing the city’s infrastructure, including on the roads network.
Though essential, roads are often closed or have limited access and, as a result, bus services must be diverted. Sometimes planned roadworks are cancelled at short notice or finish sooner than anticipated. While every effort is made to update on-street information as soon as we can, with more than 700 bus stops across our network this is very challenging to do.
It is hoped that, by implementing this new resource, customers will have more information at hand to make decisions and plan their journeys with us.
To scan the QR code, just open your mobile device’s camera and place it over the QR code. A link will then be generated – tap this and you’ll be taken to the information you need.
The initiative will be rolled out to the East Coast Buses and Lothian Country networks in the coming months.
