Lothian has welcomed a new cohort of apprentice engineers who will spend the next three to four years honing their skills through on-the-job training in our engineering workshops.
Our apprenticeship programme is highly regarded across the industry and beyond as an exceptional pathway for individuals of all ages to develop both practical and personal skills while establishing their careers in engineering.
Five new young apprentices and three mature apprentices have joined the engineering teams located at our Longstone, Central, Marine and Livingston garages where they will gain hands-on experience to complement classroom-based learning provided by partners GTG in their purpose-built centre at Newbridge. Upon successful completion of the programme, they will be awarded an SCQF Level 7 qualification in Heavy Goods and Public Service Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
Lothian’s Engineering Director, Dylan Dastey, said: “We’re delighted to welcome eight new apprentice engineers to Lothian. Apprenticeships are a vital part of our long-term commitment to developing skills and creating home-grown opportunities within the engineering sector. By combining classroom learning with practical, hands-on experience in our garages, we’re ensuring our apprentices are equipped with the knowledge and expertise needed to maintain and future-proof our fleet to the highest possible standards. They represent the next generation of engineering talent, and we’re proud to support them on their journey.”
Widely regarded as one of the best in the bus industry, our apprenticeship programme has successfully trained over 130 engineers to date, many of whom have gone on to progress their careers within the business.
