Face Covering Exemption

In Scotland, as of 21 June, face coverings became mandatory when travelling on public transport. Customers must follow Scottish Government’s advice and guidelines on wearing a face covering when using our services unless they have a legitimate reason and as such are exempt.

This advice also states that the wearing of a face covering for very young children or those with particular health conditions is not appropriate.

Lothian are committed to delivering for all of our customers.

If a customer is exempt under the Scottish Government’s current guidance, there are a number of UK wide exemption initiatives available through various organisations which they can display to show that they are exempt: there are some examples below*.

There is also the option to use our exemption card. To obtain a Lothian exemption card, you can:

  • Download and print from our website here.
  • Download to a mobile device here.
  • Collect an exemption card from our Waverley TravelHub on Waverley Bridge.

We ask for all of our customers to be aware of exemptions and to treat each other with kindness and consideration.

Further guidance on face coverings can be found here.
