At Lothian, we have a long history of supporting local and national charities.
In the last five years alone, we have raised money and given donations in kind to the value of over £1,000,000 for local charities in Edinburgh and the Lothians.
These fundraising activities, which are driven by our staff, enable charities to carry out essential work in the community, making a huge difference to the lives of families who need help and support. This has lead to the launch of an exciting new Charity of Choice initiative, a programme designed to establish long-term partnerships with charities close to our hearts.
So, how do we go about making this important decision?
The process of appointing our Charity of Choice is managed by a committee which invites applications from interested charities, before a shortlist is compiled and a staff vote determines the charity we believe is most closely aligned with our values and has a strong affinity with our team.
Applications to be our next charity partner are now closed.
Macmillan Cancer Support
The first Lothian family Charity of Choice
We are proud to say that our first Charity of Choice partner, chosen by our staff, is Macmillan Cancer Support.
For many people, this disease is all too real. It affects 1 in 76 in our operating area and this sobering statistic is a reminder that cancer touches someone close to all of us. That’s why we want to show our support for Macmillan by raising awareness and much needed money to help finance its vital work our local community.
Our partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support was launched in September 2017 and we have pulled out all the stops to raise awareness and funds for the charity. Our staff have taken part in fancy dress days, sporting challenges, sponsored slims and the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, an event the nation has taken to its hearts. Our friends at Macmillan attend our annual Doors Open Days, while Hamish – our unmistakeable green tartan double-decker bus – plays an important role in promoting the work of the charity on the streets of Edinburgh.
And like any great partnership, they’re here for us too. Macmillan is a frequent visitor to Lothian HQ, speaking to us about its work and providing resources to help our Managers better support those staff affected by cancer.
Please join us in supporting Macmillan. Look out for details of new fundraising initiatives taking place over the coming months.
